TSSK

The San Clemente Men's Golf Club (SCMGC) Board of Directors (BOD) has evaluated the Tournament Spread the Scrip points program as developed by Dean Knuth and as approved by the United States Golf Association (TSSK, for short) and has approved its implementation commencing August 1, 2016,with modifications from that presented during the test phase.

TSSK will now be used for EVERY TOURNAMENT in which a Net award category is in play which is a variation to what was being implemented during the test phase. TSSK will award points as described below for each applicable tournament. The points will remain for 12 months. In other words, points awarded to Golfer John Doe for the first tournament held in August 2016 will remain with that golfer until the first tournament of August 2017. Therefore, the points awarded to John Doe for his play in the first tournament of August 2016 will be erased from that player's point accumulation before the first tournament of August 2017, whether John Doe plays in that tournament, or not.

The only adverse comments of which the Board has become aware regarding TSSK addresses the point accumulation process. The comments point out that if awarded sufficient points during the 12 month test period which would have adjusted that player's handicap, then that player potentially would not have placed as high as he did in subsequent tournaments during the test period and, therefore, his accumulated points would be lower come August 1, 2016. These comments have merit, except that every one of the 700 plus members of the San Clemente Men's Club were subject to the same point accumulation rules during the test phase. The Board considered these comments and elected to start with the point total without consideration of what might have happened had a player's handicap been reduced simply because that player was awarded the scrip amount based on his unadjusted handicap.

Points are awarded as follows:
  • Flighted tournaments with 50 or more teams in each flight: 1st =5 points, 2nd=4, 3rd=3, 4th=2, 5th=1.
  • Un-flighted tournaments with 50 or more players: 1st = 5 points, 2nd=4, 3rd=3, 4th=2, 5th=1
  • Un-flighted tournaments with less than 50 players: 1st =4 points, 2nd=3, 3rd=2, 4th=1.
  • Flighted tournaments with less than 50 players or teams in each flight: 1st =4 points, 2nd=3, 3rd=2, 4th=1.
  • In the case of a tie for one of the first 4 or 5 places, each of the individuals or teams would earn the full number of points for that placing. As an example: Two individuals tie for 2nd place. Each individual in 2nd place would earn 4 points under this system (points for 2nd and 3rd place do not get added together and divided by two, therefore no points are awarded for 3rd place under this scenario because no one finished in a 3rd place position). The next finisher in line after the two individuals that tied for 2nd place, the 4th place finisher, would earn 2 points. Fractional points are never awarded.

TSSK will award points for the first 4 or five place finishers in the net division of most of the tournaments held by the SCMGC. The higher the finish the more the points awarded. If you receive points, consider yourself to have been TSSK'd. The number of points awarded varies by the type of play and if the tournament is flighted. In essence, the more points you receive, the greater the adjustment will be to your handicap and the more equitable will be the scrip award among the tournament players. The points will accumulate over a moving twelve month period. In other words, if you participated in a tournament on January 1, 2016, and if you were TSSK'd, then those points will stay with you until the tournament on January 1, 2017, after which time the points received in January 2016 will be expunged. By way of example, finishing first 2 times (8), second 2 times (6), third 2 times (4) and 4th once (1) in the flighted net division within the 32 "point tournaments", could reduce your handicap for the next six months for succeeding SCMGC tournaments only, by one stroke.

The The ledger used to keep track of TSSK points will be available to any Men's Club Member as it will be kept in the Men's Club drawer by the posting computer. The reason for making this accessible to all Men's Club members is so that each member can audit for themselves their own point accumulation and if the member's math differs from the Board's math, then the member shall have the right to appeal the record as it stands and ask for any inconsistencies to be resolved.

The Board hopes that by implementing TSSK that more members will be able to participate in receiving a scrip award than what has occurred in the past as we hope the program will enhance the competitiveness of our tournaments.

The Board welcomes the opportunity to address any comments or questions of any Men's Club member regarding TSSK and encourage any member to address the Board during any of the Board meetings, which occur the second Tuesday of each month at 4 PM in the Wedgewood Restaurant, or by direct communication with any Board or Committee member. This is your Men's Club and you have every right to participate in the Board's decisions, so please exercise that right BECAUSE we want to her from you!
