The San Clemente Men's Golf Club has over 1000 members. Membership is 12 months from the date you join. 1st year membership is $130.00 and $100.00 for yearly renewal after that. If you already have a Ghin# from your previous club, your handicap will carry over to our club. Each Club you join is charged for your membership by the SCGA, so there is no discount for already having a Ghin number. However the SCGA offers a Multi-membership rebate. As far as getting advanced tee-times,if you are a resident of San Clemente you can purchase a Resident's Card at the pro-shop that allows for a significant discount on green fees and 8 day advanced reservations for tee times. You will need to present a utility bill at the time of purchase that will verify your address. Non-residents can go online 7 days in advance of the date they wish to play to make a tee-time.
We are an active club, holding 3 tournaments a month; 1st Wednesday, 2nd Saturday and 3rd Friday. All tournaments have both gross and net prizes in all flights. Most of the tournaments have between 90 and 100 players. The Saturday tournament is always Individual stroke play with 2 flights, one from the Blue (back) tees and one from the White tees determined by Handicap Index. Weekday tournaments are varied in format and played from the forward white tees if a team event and from both tees if an individual stroke play tournament. Tees are assigned by flight and flights are determined by handicap. 2-man team events are flighted, 4-man team events are not, but both pay gross and net prizes. All team events, except for the 4-Ball Championship, are from the white tees. There are often teams in need of a partner or singles who sign up and need a partner.
Our Club is allotted 24 starting times for each tournament, from 7:39 to 11:06. This is called the "Block" as in a block of tee-times. A member can also make their own time for a tournament using the OnLine Reservation System and many do. There is an opening date for each "Block" that is usually about a month before the tournament. A member can call or be at the pro-shop at 6:00 am on that date in order to get a starting time for that particular tournament. For instance the July 8th Saturday tournament, the "Block" opened at 6:00 am on Thursday June 8th. All you need to do is call the Pro-shop and get a tee-time for the event. The earlier you call, the more choices you have. If all else fails you can get on the waiting list. You can enter as an individual or you can sign up a 4some or less. If you reserve a tee-time within the "Block" all players must be members of SCMGC and must participate in the tournament. If you reserve your own tee-time outside the "Block" then the players you sign up need not be Members of SCMGC. HOWEVER, non-members cannot participate in a SCMGC tournament.
Tournament fees are $10.00. The prize fund for each tournament consists of the players' tournament fees plus a subsidy from the club treasury. All prizes are in Pro-shop scrip. For individual stroke play tournaments there is usually an optional skins game; both gross and net skins within each flight.
Our club also supports both a Thursday and Saturday team. Team play runs for 6 weeks beginning in January. It may run longer if we get into the playoffs.
